The Ups & Downs of China's Great Wall

A Night of Theatre For ACRF

Lovely friend & awesome thespian Adam West is kindly putting on one night of theatre, on Tuesday December 4.  I am hugely flattered that he would do this...

Tickets sold out over a week before the show!  Thank you to Adam & to everyone who came. The one-man show raised HK$ 17,350!

What a brilliant performance. We are all in awe at how Adam could be on stage for a 90 minute monologue & stay so marvellously in character.

 Adam writes as follows....

ONE NIGHT CHARITY PERFORMANCE

AUSTRALIAN CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

in support of Lou McWilliam

UNDERNEATH THE LINTEL

"...one of a handful of great plays written in the last years..it`s an astonishingly beautiful piece of writing..." -Seattle Weekly

Tuesday 4th December 8pm

McAulay Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wan Chai.

Cash donations of 150 HKD will be accepted on the night.

Lou McWilliam recently hiked for six days on the Great Wall of China to raise funds for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. An incredible journey. This is your chance to support Lou, who tragically lost her sister to cancer in 2003, as you watch another incredible journey unfold before your eyes. For a lonely, very particular Dutch librarian a battered old  travel guide returned 113 years overdue is only the beginning. As one clue in his hunt for the culprit leads to another he finds himself having his eyes opened to the greatest question of all.

Would you believe a miracle if you saw one?

Our Dutch hero comes to realise that you have to fight against the vagaries and injustices of the Universe - to proceed as he puts it - which is exactly what the Australian Cancer Research Foundation is doing on a daily basis with its research into a disease that continues to plough its furrow of sadness and loss. This is why I am proud to perform this incredible piece of writing one last time. I couldn`t manage six days on the Great Wall but this I can do for Lou. We shall proceed.

What one audience member said after seeing the production at the Fringe Club in April:

It was an extraordinary tour de force; quite the best piece of
theatre we have seen for a long time. From your novel and stylish entrance
to a similarly effective exit, you carried the audience with you by a
remarkably compelling and mesmeric stage presence. We went with the
librarian, almost Pooteresque in your rather whimsical introduction, into
the mystery and felt the humour, the quest, the curiously, haunting motif of
loss of grace in The Wandering Jew, the grief of love past and lost, the
ephemeral passing of days, the defiance and the hope.
